Four options are given and hopefully common sense will prevail.

Back in the day before you could buy tickets online, all season ticket holders who wanted to go to a particular away match applied by post, applying in the same envelope with other season ticket holders if they wanted to sit together.

A deadline was given and once it was reached, all of those who had applied were put in order from highest number of loyalty points down to the lowest, then if say 3,000 tickets, the 3,000 with the most loyalty points who applied, got the tickets.

If you applied with other people, then only those who were above that line got tickets and sat together.

At some point during Mike Ashley’s reign, it was changed (for no apparent reason) to the current system where you have countless point drops, sometimes going on for a couple of weeks. Where so many extra people qualify each day, step by step. Meaning people can’t necessarily buy together with friends and family, if they have different numbers of loyalty points.

Option 4 below, returns us to the system that worked perfectly back in the day, only now you will be able to do it online rather than by post. Everybody applying by a certain date and then tickets allocated after the deadline to those with most loyalty points, apart from the small number kept back for a ballot (as happens as well currently).

I honestly can’t think of any faith reason against it.

It guarantees all the people with most points who apply, get the tickets, plus can apply with others and sit next to them if they have enough points.

All of the other three options (1 2, and 3) still see point drops over a period of time, just at various speeds/slowness.

Email sent to Newcastle United fans (season ticket holders) on how best to sell tickets for away matches – 14 July 2025:

Vote on the away ticket purchase process

Newcastle United is seeking feedback from Season Ticket Holders on the current away ticket purchasing process.

As we prepare for the 2025/26 season, we want to review the away ticket purchasing process to identify improvements that could reduce delays and help fans secure tickets earlier.

We have outlined four potential options for how Newcastle United could sell away tickets from the start of the 2025/26 season.

Please review the summaries below and let us know which approach you prefer by casting your vote here.

Please submit your vote by Sunday 20th July 5pm.

Current Process – No change

Loyalty point thresholds drop once per day, based on ticket availability and the number of supporters in each bracket. Once we reach the loyalty point cut off, we will continue to offer a dedicated period where supporters without the required loyalty points can enter a ballot for the opportunity to secure tickets. Benefit: Offers a familiar process to supporters and gradual access based on loyalty points. All eligible fans within the single points drop could purchase a ticket during this period if they wished. Example: 500 tickets remain. The current threshold is 20 points. If there are 534 people with 17 – 19 points, the threshold drops to 17, allowing more supporters to purchase. Note: those with 19 points or over can still apply.

Add a loyalty drop in each day (e.g. Twice-Daily Loyalty Point Drops)

Same principle as Option 1, but thresholds are updated twice a day – at 2pm (current time) and again at 5pm. Once we reach the loyalty point cut off, we will continue to offer a dedicated period where supporters without the required loyalty points can enter a ballot for the opportunity to secure tickets. Benefit: Speeds up access and offers continuity without changing the process completely. All eligible fans within the single points drop could purchase a ticket during this period if they wished. Example: 500 tickets remain. At 2pm, the threshold drops to 17 points. By 4pm, only 140 tickets have been sold. At 5pm, the threshold drops again to 15 points, unlocking access for more fans. Note: those with 15 points and above can still apply.

Larger Loyalty Point Drops

Loyalty point thresholds still drop daily but always decrease by at least 5 points at a time to widen access more quickly. Once we reach the loyalty point cut off, we will continue to offer a dedicated period where supporters without the required loyalty points can enter a ballot for the opportunity to secure tickets. Benefit: Reduces the wait time for fans with fewer points and speeds up the entire process. Example: 500 tickets remain. The threshold drops from 20 points to 15 points in one step, enabling 874 fans with 15 – 19 points to buy. Note: those with 19 points and above can still apply.

All Season Ticket Holders have 24 hours to register interest in purchasing away tickets for a specific fixture. After this window, tickets are allocated based on loyalty points, with a small percentage reserved for a ballot. Benefit: Creates a structured and transparent process, ensuring supporters know where they stand before committing to travel plans. Away tickets sold and allocated within approximately 7 working days. Example steps:

Register your intent during a 24-hour window. The club orders supporters by loyalty points. Tickets are allocated – highest point holders first, with a ballot for those outside of the loyalty points cut off. Successful supporters are notified via email within 2 days of the window closing. Supporters then have 48 hours to purchase their ticket online.
