In a recent report, The Chronicle stated that Newcastle United are facing stiff competition for Chelsea ace Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies will have to rival Leicester City, Southampton among other European clubs in the race to acquire the services of the English speedster during this summer transfer period.

Hudson-Odoi’s Decent Form At West London Last Season

Hudson-Odoi managed to produce some impressive displays despite playing a sporadic role in Thomas Tuchel’s squad. The 21-year-old scored three goals and picked up six assists in 28 matches for Chelsea last season in various competitions.

The 21-year-old caught the eye by averaging 1.2 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the 2021-22 Premier League campaign. He was even careful when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 85.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Hudson-Odoi has still got two years remaining in his current contract at Stamford Bridge. However, he needs regular playing time which could open the door for Newcastle United to land him this summer.

Newcastle United Are In The Race To Sign Hudson-Odoi: Is He Worth The Fight?

Hudson-Odoi can use his quickness and agility to make some driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He can engineer some meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third and can even chip in by scoring some vital goals for his team. Hudson-Odoi usually plays on the right wing but can even fill in as a left-sided wide player or as an attacking midfielder if needed.

The English speedster will only get better with each season which makes him a good option for the Magpies to pursue this month. He will undoubtedly inject more pace and creativity into Eddie Howe‘s attack and is good enough to make himself a regular starter at St. James’ Park.

Hudson-Odoi could even serve as an upgrade over Miguel Almiron who has struggled to find consistency at Newcastle in recent seasons. Plus, the English sensation has got the right mindset to help the Tyneside club push for European football in the not-too-distant future.

At 21, Hudson-Odoi has got the potential to become one of the best wingers in English football. Therefore, he is well worth the fight for Newcastle as long as they can get him on board for a fair price before the end of this ongoing transfer window.
