With Barcelona needing to make sales in the coming weeks, Ferran Torres is one of the players who finds himself close to the exit doors at the moment.

And, according to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are interested in signing the 23-year-old forward in the summer transfer window.

Torres arrived at Barcelona in the January transfer window last year, signing from Manchester City in a deal worth €55 million plus add-ons.

The investment, though, has not paid off in the way that the Blaugrana would have envisaged as the Spanish international has struggled to carve out a place for himself in Xavi Hernandez’s plans at the club.

A return of four goals from 32 La Liga appearances, even though only 13 of them have been starts, is just not good enough, especially given the outlay on his signing.

Torres’ departure was seen as complicated as his transfer fee is not yet fully amortised and the club would bear losses if they do not sell him for a big sum, which is impossible at this point.

However, reports earlier have claimed that Barcelona have accepted that they will make a loss on him and offload him for a fee of around only €20-25 million.

And, Newcastle United are eyeing up a move for the former Manchester City ace. Having made it to the UEFA Champions League for next season, the Magpies are keen to strengthen their ranks and see the signing of a new forward as pivotal.

There had been links with another Barcelona attacker in Raphinha, but the Brazilian international will not be leaving this summer.

As such, Torres could be a more realistic target for Newcastle United while he would be available for a cheaper price as well. What now remains to be seen is whether Eddie Howe’s side act on their reported interest in the Barcelona forward.
