In a recent report, SportItalia claimed that Newcastle United are eyeing a January move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. It has been stated that the Magpies are showing interest in recruiting the Nigerian talent and are willing to use Alexander Isak as a makeweight in pursuit of him.
Osimhen has made a decent start to this campaign as he has been responsible for putting in a few productive displays for Napoli in the final third. The Nigerian centre-forward has registered five goals and picked up one assist in eight matches for the Naples-based outfit this season across all fronts.
The 24-year-old has caught the eye at times with his offensive contributions based on his average of 4.1 shots and 0.7 key passes per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has even distributed possession relatively well after making 75.7% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Napoli will run out in the summer of 2025. However, using Alexander Isak as a makeweight could give the Magpies an edge in their attempts to land Osimhen next year.

Osimhen has proven his worth as a prolific finisher in Italian football. He has got a knack for scoring a lot of important goals for his team and has got the vision to create some decent openings for others around him on the attacking third of the pitch.
Standing at 1.86m, the Nigerian sensation can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play up top.
We can expect Osimhen to inject more goals to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He is good enough to secure a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park. The Nigeria international might even help the Tyneside club challenge for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
At 24, the Napoli star has got his best years ahead of him. Hence, Howe would be wise to go all out to recruit Osimhen when the transfer window reopens this January as he will be a dream signing for the Magpies in the long run.
