Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Winks is on the radar of Newcastle United

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is drawing interest from Newcastle United ahead of the January transfer window. He has become a peripheral figure at N17 and has struggled to get minutes of late.

The midfielder has played just eight matches this season amounting to just 527 minutes. He is yet to take off in the scoring chart but has provided an assist from the meagre game time that he has been afforded.

The 25-year-old had fallen out of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo, but the arrival of Antonio Conte has handed him a clean slate. Even though Conte prefers a midfield pairing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp, he could still have plans for Winks going ahead.

Harry Winks is a target for Newcastle United.

Newcastle are now flush with money thanks to their takeover by Saudi Arabia backed Public Investment Fund. They have eyed the midfielder as an option to boost their squad in January as they are struggling to extract themselves from the relegation dogfight.

Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard, Chelsea’s Ross Barkley, Liverpool’s Nat Phillips, Burnley’s James Tarkowski and Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier are some of the other January options the Magpies are looking at to strengthen their hand in January.

The Spurs ace did feature in the game against Leeds United where he had an impressive performance that helped the team to a comeback 2-1 win. He had a quiet first half, but that was not just his fault as the entire team struggled. However, he came to life in the second half and was influential in helping the team win the match.

Winks to leave in January?

With Giovani Lo Celso currently out injured, Tanguy Ndombele not being consistent with his performances and Dele Alli failing to reach his early promise, the England international probably has one of the best opportunities to make his case to Conte.

Should he prove his worth under the Italian manager, he could turn out to be a valuable option for us as we run into a congested run of games. Strength find depth will certainly aid Conte as he looks to make a mark with the club.
