Late Thursday afternoon has seen Sky Sports report that their information is that Newcastle United are working on a contingency plan of bringing in Benjamin Sesko.
This if of course a contingency plan, if….Alexander Isak ends up leaving St James’ Park.
Sky Sports say that their understanding is that United have explored the conditions of a deal for the 22-year-old.
Eddie Howe has made it clear that he wants two senior strikers for the new season, as well as the inexperienced Will Osula.
As things stood, that had looked to be Yoane Wissa and Alexander Isak as the two forwards, if/when a deal is completed for the Brentford forward. Earlier today it was reported by a number of journalists that a deal for Wissa was close to be being finalised, with a deal around the £35m mark seemingly set to go through shortly.
Then of course has come a day of speculation on Isak’s future and who knows what will happen…
Benjamin Sesko is a much talked about relatively raw young striker who only turned 22 in May.
He was reportedly a target for Arsenal before they instead decided to sign Viktor Gyokeres, whilst it is also claimed that Sesko turned down a proposal from a Saudi Pro League club just this week.
Sky Sports report that Newcastle United still very much have a priority of trying to keep Alexander Isak at the club and this is simply making plans on a ‘what if’ basis.
After joining RB Leipzig two years ago, Benjamin Sesko has made 57 starts (and 23 sub appearances) in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined, with 40 direct goal involvements (scoring 33 goals and getting seven assists).
