According to Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle United are considering a deal for RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan.
It had previously been reported that Barcelona approached Die Roten Bullen regarding the services of the 24-year-old.
However, the La Liga outfit walked away from any potential deal after being informed of his €50 million asking price.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman could still depart Saxony before the end of the transfer window, with Newcastle showing interest in his signature.
It is understood that Leipzig are open to negotiations, but they would insist on getting close to their €50 million valuation for Simakan.
In addition to Newcastle, it is believed that Liverpool, as well as clubs from Saudi Arabia, are also considering a late move for the 24-year-old.
Since joining Die Roten Bullen in 2021, Simakan has featured 122 times for Leipzig, playing an integral role in helping guide the club to two DFB-Pokal titles.
