Newcastle United’s summer story looks set to take a completely different turn. Fichajes, as relayed by GMS, report that the club are preparing an offer of around £70 million for Bournemouth’s star forward Antoine Semenyo. After winning the Carabao Cup and earning a Champions League berth, it was expected that this transfer window would be a cakewalk for the club, but things have not been that straightforward. Despite adding Anthony Elanga, Malick Thiaw and Aaron Ramsdale to the squad, the real concern remains the lack of a striker.

The club are close to signing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, but have missed out on targets such as Joao Pedro, Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. Meanwhile, star striker Alexander Isak has demanded to leave the club and is believed to be leaning towards Liverpool.

Eddie Howe has realised that relying solely on William Osula would be risky. In such a situation, Semenyo’s name coming up is not surprising. The 25-year-old made a great impact in the Premier League last season with his pace and physical strength, and it seems natural for Newcastle United to trust him.

Will Semenyo prove to be the right player for Newcastle United?

Now the question is whether the £70 million spending will be right or not. Semenyo’s biggest strength is his pace, directness and the way he challenges defenders. The Ghana international constantly moves forward with the ball and uses his physical strength properly. Along with this, his finishing has also improved in the last season.

Newcastle’s playing style under Howe needs speed and aggression in the attacking third, and in this regard, he can fit in. However, the price seems a bit high, because the Magpies have already made big investments, and there is still a need to improve in other positions.

Still, if Eddie Howe is confident that Semenyo will come and take the team to a higher level, then it would not be wrong to bet on this. We believe that with the arrival of both Wissa and Semenyo, the team’s attacking department will become more balanced.
