In a recent report, Sozcu Gazetesi mentioned that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Fenerbahce winger İrfan Can Kahveci. It has been stated that the Magpies would have to rival Sevilla and Rennes in the race to land the Turkish attacker in the summer.

Kahveci has enjoyed a productive campaign at the Turkish club as he has put in a string of impressive performances for them in the final third. The 28-year-old has scored 18 times and picked up 12 assists in 45 appearances for Fenerbahce this season across multiple competitions.

The Corum-born talent has been a reliable presence in the final third based on his average of 1.3 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 80.1% of his attempted passes in the Turkish top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Fenerbahce will run out at the end of next season. Thus, the Magpies could potentially snap him up on the cheap in the summer transfer window.

Is Kahveci A Good Option For Newcastle United?

Kahveci is a good dribbler with the ball and can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team. He can shoot the ball purely and with venom from long range and can create some decent opportunities for his teammates to find the back of the net. The Turkish attacker is primarily a left-winger but can also play in the number ten position or as a box-to-box midfielder if required.

At the moment, Kahveci is enjoying his football in Turkey. However, there are some concerns over whether he can handle the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.

Still, the Magpies would be wise to move in for Kahveci this summer. He is good enough to strengthen Eddie Howe’s attack next season. At 28, the Turkish wide player is playing in his prime and could help Newcastle United challenge on all fronts in the future.

With all things considered, Kahveci would be a great option for the Tyneside club to consider at the end of this season as long as they can get him for a fair price.
