In a recent report, The Daily Telegraph mentioned that Newcastle United are keeping a keen eye on Aston Villa playmaker Jacob Ramsey. It has been stated that the Magpies are eyeing a move to bring the English talent to Tyneside this summer.

Ramsey has enjoyed a decent campaign at Villa Park as he has managed to catch the eye at times for them in the opposition half. The English attacker has found the back of the net once and earned two assists in 21 appearances for the Villans this season across all competitions.

The 22-year-old has made half of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 1.2 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession after making 81.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the West Midlands club will expire in the summer of 2027. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Newcastle to snap him up on a cut-price deal in the upcoming transfer window.

Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Go For Ramsey?

Ramsey is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates in the opposition half. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range but needs to find a way to improve his productivity in the final third.

The Birmingham-born talent is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if told to do so. We can expect him to add more quality and depth to Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe’s match-day squad.

Ramsey has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting spot at the Tyneside club. At 22, the future looks quite promising for the English sensation as long as he continues to improve with each season. Therefore, it makes sense for the Magpies to go for a player with his skillset when the transfer window commences later this summer. Ramsey already knows Premier League football well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at St. James’ Park.
