In a recent report, Sky Deutschland journalist Philipp Hinze mentioned that Newcastle United are keen on recruiting Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai. It has been stated that the Magpies are hoping to sign the Hungarian talent during the summer transfer window.

Szoboszlai’s Impressive Numbers At The Red Bull Arena This Season

Szoboszlai has enjoyed a great campaign at the German club after he put in a string of impressive displays in the final third. The 22-year-old has banged in nine goals and picked up 13 assists in 45 matches for RB Leipzig this season in all competitions.

The Hungarian sensation has been a reliable performer in the final third as he is averaging 1.9 shots, 2.3 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 83% in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Bundesliga side is set to run out in 2026. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to get him on board in this off-season.

Is Szoboszlai A Good Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Szoboszlai excels at finding space for himself in the final third and can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. He has got the eye to make some decent plays for others around him and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the opposition half. The Hungarian talent is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if his manager asks him to do so.

We can expect Szoboszlai to add more goals and creativity to Eddie Howe’s attack at St. James’ Park. He is good enough to nail down a regular starting spot at Newcastle United next season.

Szoboszlai might even help the Magpies challenge for a major trophy or two over the next few years. However, it remains to be seen whether the Hungarian playmaker can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
