In a recent report, Gols Media claimed that Newcastle United are in talks to land Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are eyeing a move to bring the Georgian keeper to St. James’ Park later this year.

Mamardashvili has been a safe pair of hands in between the sticks for Valencia during this campaign as he has managed to put in a run of solid displays for them in La Liga. The Georgian custodian has made 36 league appearances for the Spanish outfit this season, conceding 39 goals and securing 13 clean sheets in the process across various competitions.

The 23-year-old has done well to average 1.1 clearances and 5.6 long balls per game in La Liga. However, he has been inaccurate with his ball distribution after completing 46.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Magpies to arrange a cut-price move for him in the upcoming transfer period.

Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Bring Mamardashvili On Board?

Mamardashvili is a good handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few solid stops for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when at getting chased down by the opposition but needs to work on improving his passing accuracy if he wants to be a success story in Premier League football.

We can expect Mamardashvili to enhance the quality of Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe’s match-day squad. He is good enough to offer some healthy competition for Nick Pope at the Tyneside club over the next few seasons.

At 23, Mamardashvili has a bright future ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Magpies to consider in the summer transfer window. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to handle the high intensity of Premier League football. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing someone with his quality, so Newcastle should go all out to get him on board this summer.
