In a recent print edition, Gazzeta dello Sport revealed that Newcastle United are in a good position to recruit Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa this summer. It is believed that the Magpies are the only club in the running for the Argentine striker who could be sold by Inter as they look to raise funds during this summer transfer window.

Correa’s Limited Role In Italian Football Last Season

Correa played a sporadic role for Inter last season when he struggled to earn regular starts in Italian football. The 27-year-old banged in six goals and grabbed a couple of assists in 36 matches for the Milan outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.

The Argentine sensation saw most of his league appearances come as a substitute which could be why he averaged 1.3 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he was even excellent with his link-up play in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 82.1% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).

Is Correa A Good Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Correa excels at creating space for himself to get a few strikes in on target. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy and can even create some meaningful openings for others around him in the attacking end of the pitch. The Argentine marksman can also be quite clever with his movement deep inside the opposition half.

At 27, Correa needs a change of scenery if he wants to make the most out of the remainder of his career. Newcastle United could be an ideal destination for him as Eddie Howe has got the luxury to offer him regular playing minutes at St. James’ Park next season.

The Argentine talent will definitely add more fire-power to the Magpies‘ frontline and increase competition for places within Howe’s match-day squad. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense for the Tyneside outfit to go all out to secure the signature of Correa this summer.
