In a recent report, Defensa Central stated that Newcastle United are eager to land Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Spanish midfield ace later this year.

Ceballos’ Lack Of Game Time In Spanish Football

Ceballos is having a frustrating season at the Madrid club as he has struggled to earn a regular run of games in La Liga. The 27-year-old has only made 21 appearances for the Spanish outfit this season, netting one goal and grabbing one assist across all competitions.

The Spain international has seen most of his game time come off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.2 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after making 88.3% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will run out in the summer of 2027. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to sign him on a cut-price deal in the upcoming transfer period.

Is Ceballos A Decent Option For Newcastle United?

Ceballos is a tough-tackling midfielder who can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He can create the odd chance for his teammates in the opponent’s half and is an energetic runner with the ball from midfield.

However, the lack of first-team starts has derailed his progress at the Madrid club. Thus, it makes sense for him to opt for a change of scenery in search of more game time later this summer.

Someone with Ceballos’ skillset will enhance the quality of Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s match-day squad. He is good enough to nail down a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park next season.

At 27, Ceballos is about to enter his prime soon which makes him a good option for the Magpies to pursue in the summer transfer window. He has already got some Premier League experience under his belt from his time at Arsenal and won’t take much time to adjust to life at if Howe can devise a way to snap him up this year.
