In a recent report, Sky Deutschland claimed that Newcastle United are among the clubs hoping to land Schalke starlet Assan Ouedraogo this summer. It has been revealed that the Magpies would have to rival Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, AS Roma and Atalanta in the race to land the German midfielder this summer.
Ouedraogo is having a decent campaign at the German club as he has put in a few impressive displays at the centre of Schalke’s midfield. The 17-year-old has scored two goals and grabbed two assists in 15 matches for the Magpies this season across all fronts.
The talented teenager has caught the eye with his performances in the middle of the park based on his average of 0.9 shots and 1.9 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga 2. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing it from midfield after making 78.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for the Magpies to get a deal done for him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Ouedraogo can strike the ball with power and precision from long range and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. Standing at 1.91m, the Schalke talent can be a strong presence in the air. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level.
Furthermore, there are some concerns over whether the German whizkid can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football if the Magpies manage to win the race for his services.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting a player of Ouedraogo’s potential. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future. At 17, Ouedraogo has got the ceiling to become a success story at St. James’ Park in the long run. Thus, it makes sense for Newcastle to go all out to snap the German midfield ace up in the upcoming transfer window.
