Newcastle United and Wolves Women close in on leaders | OneFootball

Newcastle United and Wolves both gained ground on FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division leaders Burnley whose game was postponed.

NORTHERN PREMIER DIVISION

Both Newcastle United and Wolves moved within four points of leaders Burnley, the Magpies with two games in hand, Wanderers with just the one.

Charlotte Potts’ goal had Newcastle ahead at half-time away to Huddersfield, Kacie Elson doubling the lead and late goals coming from substitute Becky Ferguson plus Katie Barker.

Sophie Bramford and Liv Fergusson struck in a five-minute spell before half-time for Wolves at West Brom, the latter with a long-range volley. Delphi Cole halved the deficit but Tammi George got a third for the visitors.

A 25-yard Rebecca May goal off the bar was the difference at the break as Derby County led at Fylde, Amy Sims and Emelia Wilson added one each, before Kira Rai netted from 30 yards out.

Liverpool Feds led Stourbridge with a Paige Cole goal for much of the match, until Kelsey Richardson buried a stoppage-time free kick.

Hashtag United stayed top with a 2-0 defeat of Plymouth Argyle, their eighth win in nine. Malika Apinidia rifled in a fourth-minute opener and Gemma Baker increased the advantage even earlier in the second period.

Bethany Lumsden got the only goal four minutes from the interval as second-placed Portsmouth won at Rugby Borough. Pompey held on despite seeing substitute Ella Humphrey sent off.

Ipswich Town hit hosts Chatham Town for six to replace Rugby in third spot. Lenna Gunning-Williams’s 25-yard effort and a Natasha Thomas first-half double featured in the victory.

MK Dons won 2-0 at Cardiff City Ladies, Adekite Fatuga-Dada scoring after only three minutes and Tricia Gould adding the second in the final 20 minutes.

Cheltenham Town leapfrogged Billericay Town into seventh place when beating them 1-0 on their own turf. Phoebie Poole’s goal early in the second half proved to be the winner.
