Newcastle United have retained an interest in Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham, according to the Daily Mail.

Not too long ago, the 18-year-old failed to win that much game time under John Eustace at Birmingham City, although the fact he was part of Eustace's first-team plans was a major achievement considering his age.

Despite managing to force his way into the senior squad at St Andrew's, he decided to join the Black Cats, who invested plenty of money in young players during the summer window in their quest to enjoy long-lasting success.

Some of these young players have struggled to make an impact at the Stadium of Light thus far, which is understandable considering their inexperience, but the same can't be said for Bellingham who has become an important first-teamer straight away.

Being given the chance to start regularly by former boss Tony Mowbray, the latter's successor Michael Beale has come in and retained faith in the teenager, who represents England at a youth international level.

Registering four goals and one assist in 25 Championship appearances, he has done well considering his age and could have got himself on the scoresheet more times.

Achieving all this at 18, he seems destined to follow in his brother's footsteps by playing at the top level.

He has only been on Wearside for a matter of months - but teams are already beginning to take an interest in him.

Newcastle, who were keen to take him to St James' Park during the previous window before the Black Cats won the race, are believed to have retained an interest in the Englishman.

A deal may be very difficult to do for the Magpies though - because Kyril Louis-Dreyfus won't want to sell to his side's main rivals.

It's believed that Eddie Howe's side are just one of multiple Premier League teams interested in him - and that news isn't a surprise considering Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the attacking midfielder.

are also keen - but whether the Bellingham brothers reunite in the Spanish capital remains to be seen.

The stance Sunderland must take on Jobe Bellingham

Bellingham has the opportunity to show the interested side why they have been keen on him.

However, he just needs to focus on his football at the Stadium of Light at the moment and try and ignore the speculation that surrounds him.

The player probably won't be desperate to leave just a number of months after joining, so the Black Cats can probably afford to take a very tough stance on the player.

He shouldn't be for sale considering his value should only increase in the next year or two.
