Newcastle United are interested in Manchester City defender John Stones.

Stones has endured a frustrating start to the campaign having been so influential for both club and country last season.

The Evening Chronicle says the centre-back has yet to play a minute for City despite making a number of appearances for England and he could be heading for Newcastle in January.

The Magpies have been linked with just about every player in Europe since their takeover was confirmed, and Stones has now been added to that long list with the report adding that a loan move could be agreed between City and Newcastle.
