As reported by , having missed out on signing Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, who is set to join PSG for around €30m in the coming hours, Newcastle United are planning on switching their attentions to another young Ligue 1 striker.
The Magpies are planning to make contact with Bordeaux over 19-year-old forward Sekou Mara. Bordeaux, despite having been relegated from Ligue 1 after a catastrophic campaign before now fighting against being demoted to the third tier due to financial issues, are demanding €15m plus bonuses and a sell-on percentage to allow the teenager to leave. In 26 Ligue 1 outings this term, mostly as a substitute, Mara managed six goals
Atlético Madrid are currently Newcastle’s main competition for the player’s signature, says Tanzi, but ESTAC Troyes and partner club Manchester City, who lead the City Group, have been scouting the teenager too after he scored five goals in four games at the end of the season in Ligue 1 while Monaco and Lyon are both interested also.
