Newcastle United are seeking to release Henri Saivet from his contract.

The Evening Chronicle says Newcastle are understood to be looking at the possibility of an early termination of Saivet's contract after Achraf Lazaar was allowed to move on following his disastrous spell at St James' Park.

Midfielder Saivet will once again miss out on a squad place - with Christian Atsu preferred to the Senegal man - leaving him in exile. Although he is not a disruptive influence and continues to train with the group, there's a feeling it is now time for all parties to move on with a departure inevitable in the summer.

Saivet played for the under-23s in November but his last first team appearance was more than three years ago. There has been no interest in either a loan or permanent deal with his £30,000 plus wages a major stumbling block for clubs.
