Newcastle United have had a £50m offer for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen turned down.
Eddie Howe wants to sign at least one striker before the transfer deadline, with the window set to close on September 1st. Newcastle have been frustrated in their pursuit of a new forward this summer, missing out on several targets, with Strand Larsen now of interest.
The Athletic are reporting that Wolves have rejected a £50m bid. The bid was a straight £50m offer with no add-ons included and arrived after what Newcastle believed were ‘positive talks’. Wolves insist that Strand Larsen is not for sale.
The Norwegian scored 14 goals in the Premier League last season during an initial loan spell at Molineux. Wolves made the 25-year-old’s loan from Celta Vigo permanent this summer for a fee of £25.9m.
Newcastle view Strand Larsen as a replacement for Callum Wilson, who departed at the expiration of his contract and has since signed for West Ham.
However, the Magpies are also dealing with Alexander Isak’s desire to leave. The Swedish striker is currently training alone after expressing his interest in a transfer. Isak did not join up with the club for their pre-season tour and has gone public in his wish to leave St James’ Park.
Liverpool saw a £110m bid for Isak rejected earlier in the window and could return after tonight’s fixture between the two teams.
