According to reports, Newcastle United have had an offer for former Leeds United attacker Raphinha ‘rejected’ by FC Barcelona.

The Brazil international left Leeds United last summer to join Barcelona. Arsenal and Chelsea were interested in him but he ended up joining the Spanish giants for a fee worth around £55m.

Raphinha made 50 appearances during his debut season at Barcelona but he was in and out of the team as he only played the full 90 minutes in three La Liga games. Despite this, he still managed to grab 10 goals and 12 assists across all competitions.

The winger has been linked with a potential move back to the Premier League this summer and Man City have reportedly monitored him as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez.

Spanish outlet Nacional are reporting that Raphinha was ‘one of the candidates to leave’ this summer but his situation has now changed.

Raphinha was competing with Ousmane Dembele last season but he has completed a move to Ligue Un giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Leeds man has also been helped by his former agent – Deco – replacing Mateu Alemany as Barcelona’s sporting director when this summer’s transfer window closes.

Back to Nacional, they state that Raphinha ‘did not want’ to leave this summer and ‘no proposal came close to what Barcelona was asking for’.

Barcelona have received ‘informal proposals’ for Raphinha and Newcastle ‘were willing to pay up to 60 million euros plus another 20 in variables’ to secure his services.

But this has been ‘rejected’ as Deco’s arrival ‘closes the exit door definitively’. Raphinha is said to be one of the former Chelsea midfielder’s ‘spoiled children’ so ‘any possibility of an exit has been eliminated’.

Had Raphinha left this summer, Man City’s Bernardo Silva was a potential candidate to replace him but the Portugal international – according to Fabrizio Romano – has now ‘agreed’ a new contact.

Romano told Caught Offside: ‘Some more big breaking news last night – Bernardo Silva has verbally agreed a new contract with Manchester City. It will be signed next week probably, that’s the expectation.

‘So it now looks like Silva is not going to Barcelona or PSG, and I already mentioned some weeks ago that it was impossible because City told these clubs that they were not keen on this deal.’

On Ansu Fati, he added: ‘There are clubs pushing behind the scenes to sign Ansu Fati. I can’t mention the names of these clubs yet, but it’s also worth saying that Ansu’s desire has always been to stay at Barcelona.
