Having impressed scouts on frequent visits, Rony Lopes of Sevilla is a prime January transfer target for Newcastle.
Steve Bruce has been keen to strengthen his side in that particular area.
A report in the Chronicle claims that he has been given the green light for additions out wide in the winter window.
The story goes on to say that their prime choice is Lopes, who has been scouted extensively by Newcastle staff.
It is claimed that Magpies representatives watched him in action over 10 times within the past 12 months, dating back to Rafael Benítez’s time in charge.
A former Manchester City youngster, the 23-year-old joined Sevilla this summer from Monaco, penning a five-year deal.
But Newcastle are considering a swoop to make his time in Andalusia a short one, given their need to add depth on the wing.
Matt Ritchie and Allan Saint-Maximin’s injuries have already left the side with just Jetro Willems and Christian Atsu as their recognised wingers.
