Javier Manquillo’s contract is set to expire at the end of the month but Newcastle are confident they can sign the Spaniard to a new long-term deal.

That’s according to the Telegraph, who claim the Magpies are sure that they can provide an offer that’s more appealing than those of Real Betis, Southampton, and Crystal Palace.

It’s believed talks have ‘progressed’ between Manquillo and Newcastle after it was believed last month that talks were not taking place whatsoever.

Manquillo arrived in a £4.5m move from Atlético Madrid in 2017 after loan spells at Liverpool, Marseille, and Sunderland, and has since made 59 appearances for the club.

It was reported at the end of May that Manquillo’s agent had reached out to several LaLiga clubs in hopes of making a return to his home country, including Betis and Sevilla.

Though the 26-year-old has only made 15 appearances this season, it’s fair to say that this season is his best at St. James’ Park since his arrival.
