Newcastle offered early optimism on Sven Botman injury

Newcastle are optimistic that Sven Botman avoided sustaining a serious injury during Sunday’s loss to Liverpool.

The defender exited in the closing stages with an ankle problem, shortly after committing an unfortunate error which led to Darwin Núñez’s equaliser.

Botman was helped off by medical staff in extreme discomfort and there were fears that the issue may have been severe.

However, the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope now reports that there are early indications that the injury is not as serious as was initially predicted.

Botman will undergo further scans this week to determine the full extent of the damage but the issue is unlikely to sideline him long-term.
