Newcastle United are monitoring the situation regarding the potential transfer of Real Sociedad and Sweden striker Alexander Isak, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

Eddie Howe’s side have made three senior additions to the side so far this summer, but are looking to add more players to the squad before the window shuts.

What’s the latest on Isak?

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are prepared to break their record transfer fee to bring Isak to St. James’ Park this summer.

The hierarchy at the club have unanimously agreed that signing the 22-year-old would improve their attack, but it was also acknowledged that the club would likely have to spend what was remaining of their transfer budget to bring the £27m-rated man to the club.

Isak joined Sociedad from Borussia Dortmund in July 2019, and it looks like the Swede could be on the move again this summer, with Newcastle interested in making him their star forward for this Premier League’s campaign.

And Jacobs believes that due to a domino effect in the transfer market, the signing of Isak might just fall into place for the Toon.

What has Jacobs said about Isak?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Newcastle are monitoring Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak and with Arsenal signing Gabriel Jesus could have a clear path to getting him.

“A lot will just depend on the fee since Sociedad won’t let him go cheap.

“Just that fact Newcastle are even in the conversation for a player of his quality shows the level of ambition of the club.”

Would Isak be a good signing for Newcastle?

Isak, who has been described as an “exceptional talent” by Gary Lineker, could be a game changing signing for Newcastle this summer, and securing the signature of the Swede would send a message out to the rest of Europe in regards to Newcastle’s ambition.

The 37-time Sweden international has made 130 appearances in his time at Sociedad, scoring 43 goals and providing eight assists according to Transfermarkt.

Isak is not only a consistent goalscorer, but he is also capable of marvelling fans when on the ball and is a very confident dribbler, shown by the fact that he ranked in the top 5% of forwards across Europe’s top five leagues and European competition for dribbles completed per 90 minutes last season (1.87), according to FBref.

An average SofaScore rating of 6.78 for his performances in La Liga last season suggest that the 6 foot 4 striker could step it up another level, but due to his youth in age he is likely to improve with every passing season at this stage of his career.

Whilst it would likely be Newcastle’s last piece of business this summer, it would be an exceptional signing if Howe’s side could tempt Isak into a move to St. James’ Park ahead of August’s Premier League kick-off.
