The Athletic's Chris Waugh has claimed that Amanda Staveley is already communicating with the club's staff more than Mike Ashley did in his entire tenure as owner.

Staveley helped a Saudi-led consortium buy Newcastle earlier this month, ending Ashley's 14-year reign.

What's the latest news involving Newcastle?

Newcastle's high-profile takeover finally went through on October 7, 10 days before their next league game against Tottenham. This led to wild celebrations outside St James' Park that evening, although things did not go to plan when they returned to action on the pitch this past weekend.

Staveley and co. opted to stick with under-fire manager Steve Bruce for another game, and Newcastle got off to a dream start on Sunday when Callum Wilson put them ahead against Spurs inside two minutes.

The team's shortcomings were exposed for the rest of the half, though, as goals from Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son opened up a 3-1 lead for the north London side.

The Magpies pulled one back late on thanks to a comical Eric Dier own goal, but in truth, they were well beaten.

What has Waugh said about Staveley?

It is clear that the team need to improve on the field, as they currently sit down in 19th, three points adrift of safety. However, Waugh has pointed out that Staveley is already making positive moves behind the scenes by speaking to staff members at the club on a regular basis.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I spoke to some staff members last week, and within 24 hours of the new owners being here, they had been addressed directly by the new owners. Mike Ashley didn’t speak to them, and they’d worked at the club for more than a decade, never spoken to them once. The same with supporters.

“They’ve heard more from Amanda Staveley in the last week, than they’d heard from Mike Ashley, directly, in his 14 years of owning the club.”

Why is it important that Staveley is doing this?

It gives off the impression that she cares about the club, which was perhaps not always the case with Ashley.

During the last 14 years, there have often been lengthy periods of silence from Ashley when it comes to sending out messages to the fans. He allowed the side to drift along, seemingly content with the club managing to stay in the top-flight.

There was a real lack of ambition, as the team were unable to challenge for any silverware, and the football has been dire to watch at times.

Staveley appears to want to change the mood at the club as quickly as possible, and this means speaking with the staff and fans to help build a spirit within the community that can help Newcastle start to push up the table soon.

Thus far, it seems to be working, as St James' Park was sold out on Sunday, and had an electric atmosphere, especially when the Toon Army went in front early on.

The new owners need to communicate with the fans to show that they are in this for the long haul, and they are doing a good job on that front already.
