Newcastle United have confirmed Joelinton has signed a new four-year deal with the club, which will keep him on Tynesdie until 2028.

The Brazilian, who has been capped five times by his country, joined the club from Hoffenheim in a then-club record £40m deal in 2019, and has since gone onto make 179 appearances, scoring 25 goals.

Originally a striker, the 27-year-old’s Magpies’ career really took off when he was converted into a deeper box-to-box midfielder by Eddie Howe, and he was a key part of the side that made last season’s EFL Cup final and qualified for the Champions League.

Speaking on the new contract, the 27-year-old said: “I feel great. I feel very happy and my family is happy. I’ve learnt a lot and grown a lot, and for me to come here to Newcastle was the best decision of my career.”

“I’m glad to continue and I hope to have success in the years to come.”

Howe was equally positive, stating that sorting a new deal was a “big priority for all of us off the pitch and I’m absolutely delighted Joelinton has committed his future to the club.”

The midfielder has been restricted to just 23 appearances this season in all competitions, having suffered a serious groin injury in January. It is currently uncertain if he will return before the end of his side’s Premier League campaign.
