Newcastle midfielder has secret Barcelona clause in new contract, could cost €65-70 million | OneFootball

Barcelona remain on the lookout for midfielders to reinforce their roster despite having a loaded department in the centre of the park comprising Frenkie de Jong, Ilkay Gundogan, Gavi, Pedri, and Oriol Romeu.

And, as per Toni Juanmarti of SPORT, one of the names that continues to be on the radars of the reigning La Liga champions is Newcastle United superstar Bruno Guimaraes.

Guimaraes dreams of joining Barcelona

As has been established already, Barcelona wish to sign a new pivot midfielder for the long term and Bruno Guimaraes is a player who is liked at the club, despite his signing appearing a distant dream at this point.

Guimaraes signed for Newcastle from Olympique Lyon back in January 2022 and has gone on to become a cult figure at St. James’ Park in a short period.

Given how important he is to the team, the Premier League club tied the Brazilian down to a new long-term contract until the summer of 2028 earlier this month.

But the aforementioned report states that despite having signed a long-term deal with the Magpies, Guimaraes dreams of playing for Barcelona at some point in the future.

In the past, he has already made several nods to the Catalan giants and in his private sphere, he makes no secret of the fact that he would love to join Barcelona.

With Guimaraes hoping to join Barcelona in the future, the report states that the midfielder has managed to insert a special clause in his new contract pertaining to Barcelona.

If Barça were to make a play to sign him, the transfer fee would be somewhat lower than if another club were to bid for his services. In other words, there is a price for Barça and a price for other teams.

As per the report, the figure stipulated for Barça to take the player is around €65-70 million.

Given the current financial situation at the club, it will obviously be very difficult for Barcelona to shell out that sum.

But if there were one or two major sales during the summer, splashing such cash might not be completely ruled out.
