Paris Saint-Germain are gearing up for a defensive overhaul to address lingering challenges at the back. With Milan Škriniar potentially departing and Presnel Kimpembe still on the road to full fitness, the club are actively exploring reinforcements.

As Marquinhos moves into his 30s, PSG are intent on injecting youth into their defense. In 2024, they took a significant step by bringing in talented center-backs Lucas Beraldo and Willian Pacho.

Despite these additions, PSG’s search is not over. Last summer, they attempted a late swoop for Tomás Araújo, but the deal fell through.

Now, according to Foot Mercato, PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos has opened discussions with representatives of RC Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov. While talks are underway, PSG are yet to submit an official bid.

RC Lens reportedly value the Uzbekistan international at €15 million to €20 million, with several Premier League clubs also keeping tabs on the player. Nonetheless, these other interested clubs have received a transfer boost.

Le Parisien’s Marc Mechenoua reports that Khusanov will not be joining PSG. Sporting advisor Luis Campos notes that the club have decided against signing the Uzbek player, emphasizing their focus on recruiting individuals who align perfectly with Luis Enrique’s style of play.

CaughtOffside recently reported that Manchester City are showing interest in Khusanov and are planning further discussions about a potential transfer. The Premier League champions are reportedly considering an initial €10 million bid as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his squad for the 2025 season.

Marseille, PSG, and Newcastle United are also tracking the 20-year-old, with Newcastle particularly keen on signing him in January to boost their Champions League campaign. Khusanov is said to be open to the move.

However, Wolverhampton Wanderers appear to be leading the race for the midfielder. The club has already entered negotiations with Lens and is reportedly prepared to make a significant investment to secure the Ligue 1 talent, as manager Vitor Pereira aims to reinforce his defense.
