Newcastle United are unlikely to make a move for Conor Gallagher this summer due to Chelsea’s valuation, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch away from Chelsea in recent months. During the January transfer window, Everton’s efforts to sign Gallagher were knocked back.

Chelsea are undergoing a midfield overhaul, with Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante set to depart for Manchester City and Al-Ittihad. Mason Mount is also heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

Gallagher has been the subject of interest from Newcastle prior to this summer and Eddie Howe’s interest in the England international remains. The Magpies’ need for players this summer has increased after qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Craig Hope of the Daily Mail has now reported that Gallagher remains ‘under consideration’ in the north east.

But Chelsea value Gallagher at £50 million and Newcastle rate the midfielder at less than half of that, which makes any potential deal unlikely due to preferred interest in other players.

It was claimed last month by the Evening Standard last month that Gallagher, who has also been linked with West Ham, could be one of four players who could be ‘instrumental’ under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Journalist Paul Brown believes Gallagher is the perfect fit for Pochettino, telling GiveMeSport:”I think Gallagher is perfect for Pochettino. If he goes back to the Spurs blueprint where they were a high-pressing, hard working, run you down team, with talent all over the pitch with wing-backs breaking forward, you could quite easily achieve that at Chelsea.

“With a good pre-season and everyone getting used to it, they have the players in place and Gallagher would be perfect for that role.”

Dean Jones has suggested Gallagher wants to remain at Stamford Bridge, adding: “Conor Gallagher does not really want to leave Chelsea, and I still think it’s unlikely that he will go to Newcastle.

“If Gallagher was forced to consider options away from Chelsea, I’m told that it’s unlikely he would want to move away from London.”
