Brighton are not concerned that Newcastle could come calling for their manager Graham Potter, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

The Magpies parted ways with Steve Bruce this morning after a winless start to the season, which has left them inside the relegation zone.

What's the latest news at Newcastle?

After the club's takeover went through on October 7, it seemed that it was always going to be a matter of time before Bruce was given his marching orders.

In the end, it took the owners almost two weeks to get rid of the 60-year-old, and now they must focus on finding his replacement.

Potter has been mentioned as a possible option to take the hotseat at St James' Park, although he claimed last week that he is ignoring rumours linking him with switching the South Coast for the North-East.

What has Barclay said about Potter potentially leaving Brighton for Newcastle?

The Sun reporter does not believe that Brighton are too nervous about Potter joining Newcastle. Nevertheless, he has admitted that he expects the club to be aware that the 46-year-old will move on at some point if he continues to impress at the Amex Stadium.

When asked if Brighton are getting fidgety about Potter being linked with Newcastle, Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “In terms of genuine worry, not that I’ve heard of. I think Brighton are a club, like with Ben White, when it comes to players, they will sell players if the fee is right. Not that they are looking to do it.

“And, I guess, there is probably a feeling that, if Graham Potter keeps progressing the way he is, he will go to a bigger club eventually.”

What are the chances of Potter moving to Newcastle?

As things stand, Potter does not seem to be one of the leading candidates for the job.

It has been reported that Newcastle have narrowed down their options to Lucien Favre, Eddie Howe and Paulo Fonseca. All three of these managers are currently out of work, so doing a deal with any of them is likely to be easier for Newcastle than getting Potter.

Still, there is no guarantee that Newcastle will be able to convince any of the trio that this is the right move for them at this stage of their respective careers. If this is the case, they may then turn their attention to Potter.
