Newcastle’s 20-year wait to play Champions League football at St. James’s Park is over, and their showdown against Paris Saint-Germain is off to a flying start.

Following a mistake from Marquinhos, Miguel Almirón cooly fired home into the far corner to spark scenes of jubilation for the Geordies in the ground.

The 17th-minute strike was Newcastle’s first goal in the competition since legendary striker Alan Shearer scored against Inter in 2003. It was also Almirón’s third goal in as many games.

As per Opta, the Magpies have never lost a match where they went 1-0 ahead in the competition.
