Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe would welcome Brighton & Hove Albion winger Leandro Trossard to St James’ Park, claims Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Belgium international has been linked with a move to the Magpies, and Downie thinks he ticks a lot of boxes for them.

Newcastle transfer news – Leandro Trossard

According to ChronicleLive, Newcastle have been keeping close tabs on Trossard, who has been described as a “magician” by The Argus‘ Brian Owen.

The 27-year-old is having an incredible season at the Amex and was at the World Cup with his country.

As per Transfermarkt, Trossard has scored seven goals in 14 Premier League games, helping to take Brighton into seventh place.

It is no surprise that teams are now looking at him. If he is to leave the Amex next month, a report from The Northern Echo suggests he could cost £30m.

What has Keith Downie said about Leandro Trossard and Newcastle?

Downie thinks Trossard is the sort of player Howe would love to have at Newcastle.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Sky Sports reporter said: “I think Trossard would be a really good fit. I can see why he’s being mentioned, and I could see that being the sort of player that Eddie Howe would welcome to the club.

“He’s young, he’s already an international player, he’s played in the Premier League before and he ticks a lot of boxes.”

What position is Leandro Trossard?

Trossard is naturally a left winger; however, he has played up front a few times this season, including in Brighton’s incredible 4-1 win against Chelsea.

As per Transfermarkt, the Seagulls star was used there on the day and managed to get himself on the scoresheet.

For most of his career, though, Trossard has played on the left flank, which is why he could be such a smart signing for Newcastle, especially at just £30m.

The Magpies, of course, have Allan Saint-Maximin. However, since arriving at St James’ Park from Nice back in 2019, he has picked up quite a few injuries.

The Frenchman’s injury history page on Transfermarkt shows that he has actually missed over 40 games because of the above, which is a bit of a concern.

To Newcastle’s credit, though, they have quite clearly survived in his absence this season, with Howe’s men currently sitting third in the table.

If they want to finish in the top four, however, then they probably need to add to their squad next month, and Trossard looks like he could be a really good addition.
