Newcastle have ‘not given up’ in their pursuit of Jesse Lingard as the club look to secure a loan deal for the Manchester United midfielder before Monday’s deadline.

Newcastle have seen an opening offer to take Lingard on loan turned down by the Red Devils, with the two clubs having been unable to find a compromise on a loan fee.

Manchester United are believed to have been demanding as much as £12m should Lingard help Newcastle avoid relegation this season, as the club look to recoup a fee for a player who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Times are reporting that the fee involved is now ‘negotiable’ and Newcastle are planning new talks as the Magpies look to finalise a deal for the England international before Monday’s deadline.

Lingard is keen to leave the Red Devils in search of regular first-team football, having failed to start a Premier League fixture so far this season.

He is believed to want a loan move to St James’ Park as he seeks increased involvement, a move that would leave his options open when he becomes a free agent this summer.

West Ham – where Lingard enjoyed a successful loan spell last season – and Tottenham had been interested in the 29-year-old, but United were unwilling to negotiate with potential top-four rivals.

Lingard could join Bruno Guimarães as a new signing at Newcastle with the club closing in on the £33m signing of the Brazil international from Lyon.
