Newcastle pair Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson could be back in action against Fulham, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The key attacking duo, who cost the club £36m, are both currently out injured, but Downie reckons at least one of them could play some part at Craven Cottage on Saturday week.

What’s the latest news involving Saint-Maximin and Wilson?

Both players made strong starts to the season, with Saint-Maximin registering one goal, a stunning late strike to rescue a point at Wolves, and two assists in five appearances.

Meanwhile, Wilson scored twice in three matches before suffering a hamstring problem in the 3-3 draw against Manchester City.

As a result, the England striker has missed the last four Premier League games, while Saint-Maximin has been sidelined for the last three top-flight fixtures.

Eddie Howe’s team have struggled in their absence, collecting just three points, and scoring only four goals in their last four games, results which have seen them slip to 10th in the standings.

Premier League and Newcastle United all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer is a true legend of the game, but when did he leave their club?

But ahead of the Magpies’ return to action after the international break, Downie has provided a promising update on the pair.

What did Downie say about Saint-Maximin and Wilson?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think one of them is slightly ahead of the other by the sound of things.

“I think maybe Wilson is actually slightly ahead of Saint-Maximin and I would expect at least one of them to be back for the for the next match against Fulham.”

Who is more important to Newcastle?

Generally, Wilson has always been a key player for the Toon Army, with his goal record a notable 22 in 49 games since his move from Bournemouth two years ago.

During that period, Newcastle have struggled for goals whenever he’s been out injured, but that might no longer be the case following Alexander Isak’s switch from Real Sociedad, with the Swede scoring twice in three outings.

As a result, getting Saint-Maximin fit and back into the side is surely a higher priority for Howe, simply because his replacements don’t bring the same pace or quality to the team, while the Magpies can now cope perfectly well in Wilson’s absence.
