Even the biggest of Newcastle supporters couldn’t be blamed for forgetting that Achraf Lazaar is still under contract at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle completed the signing of the Morocco international left-back from Palermo in 2016 for £2m. However, after four years and just 10 first-team appearances, it seems that Lazaar’s time at the club is over.
According to The Chronicle, Lazaar has been banished to training with the reserves and will not be a part of Steve Bruce’s plans this season.
Furthermore, Newcastle could let the player leave for free after reportedly having the player available for multiple transfer windows. The 28-year-old is on a reported £32,000-per-week deal.
Lazaar has not featured for the Magpies since August 2017 and has since spent time on loan at Benevento, Sheffield Wednesday (under Bruce), and most recently Serie B outfit Cosenza.
However, after a very unimpressive loan spell in Italy, Newcastle are now keen to get him off the wage bill along with fellow flops Rolando Aarons and Henri Saivet.
