Newcastle United target Noni Madueke would be ‘a good alternative’ to Moussa Diaby this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Magpies now appear to be targeting attacking reinforcements after strengthening their backline already in the current window, and aforementioned duo are seemingly on Eddie Howe’s shortlist.
A recent report from 90min claimed that Newcastle are prepared to break their transfer record in order to bring Diaby to the club and have been scouted several options out wide.
It’s claimed that Leverkusen want to keep hold of the talented 22-year-old but could be tempted to sanction his sale if they receive a bid in excess of £40 million.
90min have also credited the North East outfit with an interest in a number of other wingers, including PSV Eindhoven’s Madueke.
The likes of Leicester City, Leeds United, Everton, Wolves and his boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur are all tracking the 20-year-old’s progress.
Madueke was linked with a £40m move to the Premier League himself last summer before putting pen to paper on a new four-year contract, meaning he is likely to cost a significant sum.
O’Rourke believes that the England Under-21 international is perhaps a ‘more attainable’ target than Diaby at this moment in time for Newcastle.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think he’d probably be cheaper than Moussa Diaby and maybe more attainable right now. He’s an exciting player, Noni Manueke, whose had a number of top Premier League clubs look at him in the past.
“Obviously, he came through at Tottenham before making the move to PSV, and he’s done quite well out in Holland as well. So, he’s an exciting player who can score goals and provide goals, and I think he’d be a good alternative if Leverkusen aren’t willing to sell Diaby.”
Madueke has almost exclusively played on the right-wing throughout his senior career, and with Allan Saint-Maximin occupying the opposite flank, the duo could provide plenty of threat from out wide at St. James’ Park.

In 70 appearances across all competitions for PSV, the 5 foot 9 ace has registered 18 goals and 14 assists, claiming one Dutch Cup along the way.
Ryan Fraser is likely to be the player who drops out of Howe’s starting XI should Madueke make the switch to Newcastle, yet after providing just five goal contributions in 27 Premier League outings last term, he surely can’t have too many complaints.
