Newcastle continue spectacular run as Bruno Guimaraes scores winner against Southampton

Newcastle United's spectacular 2022 has continued with a 2-1 away win over Southampton.

Eddie Howe's side have now gone unbeaten in their last nine Premier League matches, lifting them up to 14th on the table, and most importantly 10 points above the drop zone.

Saints had taken a deserved 25th-minute lead when Stuart Armstrong nodded home Mohamed Elyounoussi's cut-back.

Newcastle hit back seven minutes later when Chris Wood fired in his first goal for the club.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side almost restored there lead shortly after but Che Adams' thunderous strike rattled the crossbar.

It was January signing Bruno Giumaraes, making his first start for Newcastle, who won the game for the visitors with a powerful back-heel volley into the roof of the net.
