Newcastle United are keen to keep Matt Targett around following his recent loan spell with the Magpies.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, talks were held with the defender’s parent club Aston Villa in an attempt to strike a permanent deal worth £12million.

An agreement between both clubs is allegedly ‘close’ to completion.

Eddie Howe’s side, in particular, will hope to get the deal sorted quickly with Fulham also reportedly following the 26-year-old.

While with Newcastle, Targett made 35 appearances across all competitions and registered one goal and one assist.
