Bruce is confident his side can finish the season strongly and avoid relegation despite their slide down the table, with just three points now separating the Magpies and Fulham in 18th.

"We're coming to sticky part. When the daffodils are up the crux of the season is upon us," he said.

"We've still got a lead. But it seems Newcastle are the only ones in it [the relegation battle]. There are [actually] six or seven teams, can we finish above the six or seven? That's the aim. I'm quietly confident we can do that."

Newcastle have no fresh injury concerns for the visit of Wolves on Saturday.

Joelinton came off early in the second half at Old Trafford last weekend but is available.

Callum Wilson, as you have already read, is still sidelined along with Javi Manquillo and Fabian Schar.

"Joelinton is OK," said Bruce. "Federico Fernandez has trained all week but tomorrow still might be a bit too early for him. We have no new injuries."
