Newcastle United are tracking Goncalo Ramos this summer. Per Craig Hope, he is back on the agenda for the Magpies.
It remains to be seen if they will take action to bring him to St. James’ Park.
The Newcastle target bagged 19 goals and six assists in 49 appearances for the Parisians last term.
He has begun the season on fire, netting the equaliser in the UEFA Super Cup, which eventually went to penalties, allowing PSG to win.
Newcastle need a lethal striker, and Ramos fits the bill. The 24-year-old is a terrific finisher and can be an excellent option for the Tyneside outfit.
The Magpies need a new striker with Alexander Isak pushing for a move to Liverpool this summer.
Eddie Howe’s side have not been able to sign their first-choice targets, forcing them to turn to Ramos.
Per the report, ‘The Portugal forward has admirers within St James’ Park, and intermediaries have indicated that a deal is possible.’
Lauded as a wonderful player by PSG boss Luis Enrique, Ramos scored 34 goals in 87 appearances, with most of them coming from the bench.
He has also bagged nine goals in 16 appearances for his national team.
However, while Ramos’ scoring record is impressive, his biggest flaw lies in his inability to impose himself on matches, which can be a problem for Newcastle.
He is lethal when chances fall his way, but he can often drift through games when service is limited, relying heavily on others to create the platform for him.
This lack of assertive presence could be exposed in the Premier League, where strikers must battle for every inch against aggressive centre-backs and scrap for half-chances.
Newcastle will need more than just a penalty-box finisher. The Magpies need a forward who can bully defenders, hold the ball under pressure, and dictate attacking momentum.
Without developing this side of his game, Ramos risks becoming peripheral in tougher fixtures if he signs for Newcastle.
