According to HITC, the Nigerian is attracting interest from five top flight sides as we approach the market reopening at the end of the campaign.

Ndidi’s contract is set to expire once the season concludes, which will allow him to leave the Foxes for nothing as a free agent.

Ndidi has been a key figure at the King Power Stadium since joining Leicester from Belgian side Genk in 2017.

The midfielder has featured 26 times in the Championship for Enzo Maresca’s side this season, as they chase promotion straight back to the Premier League at the first attempt (all stats from Fbref).

It has been claimed that the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton are chasing the signature of Ndidi.

Eddie Howe is also keen on bringing the midfielder to Newcastle United in a bid to strengthen their midfield options.

Wolves and Aston Villa have also been mentioned as potential next destinations for the 27-year-old should he leave Leicester in the summer.

It remains to be seen whether the Championship side can convince Ndidi to remain with the club beyond this season.

The club’s financial situation could also play a role in any potential contract talks with the player.

The Leicestershire outfit have been charged with an alleged breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, which could hamper their ability to spend in the upcoming transfer window, including on wages.

Wilfred Ndidi’s European interest

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Juventus are also monitoring the situation surrounding Ndidi going into the summer.

The European giants can currently negotiate a deal to sign the player due to his expiring contract, but there is no indication talks have yet begun over a move.

Ndidi will be focused on helping Leicester’s promotion bid, with the team currently sitting top of the Championship table.

The midfielder featured in the team’s 2-1 win over Birmingham City last weekend, with the victory moving Maresca’s side ahead of both Leeds United and Ipswich Town in the table.

The gap to the Whites in third is just two points, although Leicester also have a game in hand over their automatic promotion rival.

The Foxes have just six games to go to seal a place back in the Premier League with a top two finish.

Ndidi’s departure looking increasingly likely

Ndidi’s future seemingly lies away from Leicester given there has been no progress over a potential new deal.

The club’s financial situation also makes it difficult to tie down the player to a new contract given the considerable size of his wages.

With five top flight sides circling, as well as some of Europe’s biggest clubs, a move away from the King Power now feels inevitable.

Ndidi has been a great servant to the club and losing him as a free agent will be a blow.

The Foxes have to hope that securing promotion back to the Premier League is enough to convince him to sign a new deal.
