Manchester City appear set to field transfer interest in Jack Grealish from the Premier League over the course of the coming weeks, according to new reports.
Grealish is assessing interest from clubs in England and abroad as he looks for a new chapter this summer after making just seven Premier League starts for Manchester City in the recent campaign, leaving his club future in serious doubt.
The 29-year-old is running out of time to stake a claim in England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad and has been told by manager Thomas Tuchel that he needs to be playing regularly for his club in order to be in contention.
After playing a crucial role in Manchester City’s historic 2022/23 treble triumph, Jack Grealish has failed to kick on and played a bit-part role for Pep Guardiola the last two seasons, leading to a wider acceptance that now is the time for all parties to shake hands and move on.
According to the information of The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Newcastle United are set to be among the clubs interested in Grealish, with St James’ Park officials likely to eye a temporary deal with Manchester City for the 2025/26 season.
However, officials in the north-east are unlikely to have a free-run at Grealish within the Premier League, as separate reporting from MailSport’s Mike Keegan has also named Everton as an interested party.
It is explained that bosses from the Hill Dickinson Stadium are monitoring the situation with the England international, although no talks have taken place between the two clubs at this stage.
Once again, it is pointed out that any potential move would likely be in the shape of a loan, with Grealish’s £300,000-a-week wages an issue. However, Grealish will know he needs to take a significant pay-cut if he wants to stay in England.
Since 2023, recurring injuries, off-field issues and a lack of sustained game-time have derailed Jack Grealish from realising his best form that made him so integral to Pep Guardiola when Manchester City were on course for a treble.
Guardiola has left the door open for Grealish to stay and fight for a place in the starting line-up if he wants to, but it would be a significant risk for the £100 million signing to have another unsuccessful season in Manchester if he continues to be overlooked.
Savinho, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Omar Marmoush and even a below-par Phil Foden were all preferred to Grealish on the left-wing at various points of the 2024/25 season, which arguably says it all about where the England international ranks in Guardiola’s pecking order.
Jack Grealish is also set to be left out of Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup squad to help the forward sort out his future and find a club in time for the reopening of the summer transfer window – which will shut ahead of the tournament’s launch.
