Newcastle United and Chelsea are among the frontrunners to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool this summer.

Kelleher is expected to move on at the end of the campaign as he targets a first-choice role.

Despite emerging as an excellent understudy at Liverpool, the 26-year-old has been unable to dislodge Alisson Becker as number one. Liverpool have also agreed a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia and the Georgian will link up with the Reds in the summer.

Several Premier League rivals are interested in a deal to sign the Republic of Ireland international. According to TBR football, Newcastle are looking at Kelleher as a long-term replacement for Nick Pope. The latter will turn 33 in April, while fellow ‘keeper Martin Dubravka is out of contract at the end of the season.

Chelsea are also in the market for a goalkeeper with Robert Sanchez having struggled for form. No goalkeeper has made more errors directly leading to goals in the Premier League this season.

Bournemouth, who currently have Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea, are also admirers, alongside Celtic. However, the Scottish champions are unlikely to be able to match the financial proposals on offer from Premier League clubs.

In September, Kelleher said Liverpool’s signing of Mamardashvili is an indication his future lies away from Anfield.

“I made it clear in the last few years I want to go be a number one and play week in, week out,” the shot-stopper said when on international duty.

“The club made the decision to get another goalkeeper. From the outside looking in, looks like they have made a decision to go in another direction.

“My ambition has always been clear the last few seasons that I want to be a number one.

“Sometimes from the outside looking in, it looks like it is 100 per cent my decision but at times it is not always in my hands.”
