Newcastle are interested in a move for Brentford striker Ollie Watkins as they aim to bolster their attack ahead of next season.
Signing a forward is believed to be their primary aim from the market this summer.
They have been linked with several players in that regard already, such as Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, and another name has now came to the fore.
According to the Chronicle, the Magpies have identified Watkins as a potential addition ahead of their return to action next month.
Although they are largely focusing on loans and free agents as part of their transfer strategy, there is money to spend at St James’ Park.
The report claims that the Bees are seeking a fee in the region of £16 million for the striker but are open to discussion.
Leeds and Crystal Palace have also been linked with a move for Watkins after his side failed to achieve Premier League promotion.
The 24-year-old scored 25 league goals in the Championship last season.
