Newcastle United‘s goal now needs to be bringing players like Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic to St James’ Park, says journalist Dean Jones.

The Serbia striker has been linked with a move to the Magpies, and Jones thinks footballers of his level should eventually be the aim for Eddie Howe.

Newcastle transfer news – Dusan Vlahovic

A big claim has emerged from Italy suggesting that Newcastle are extremely keen on signing Vlahovic.

According to Calciomercatoweb, the Magpies are dreaming about adding the 22-year-old to their squad and are willing to offer Alexander Isak, who only joined the club during the summer, in a potential deal.

It is a transfer that seems highly unlikely, to say the least. You cannot blame Newcastle for wanting Vlahovic, though, if the above is true.

Right now, Vlahovic is one of the top strikers in Europe. As per Transfermarkt, he scored an impressive 29 goals in 45 appearances last term.

What has Dean Jones said about Dusan Vlahovic and Newcastle?

Jones cannot see Juventus selling Vlahovic but believes he is the sort of player Newcastle need to be targeting.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer reporter said: “There’s probably too much going on at Juve for them to even consider losing him at this moment. But this is one of the big things that has come out of Newcastle’s season. Can they get up to attracting that next level of player? That’s got to be the goal.”

Dusan Vlahovic’s stats for Serbia and Juventus

Vlahovic is currently at the World Cup with Serbia but is yet to make much of an impact at the tournament.

As per Transfermarkt, the former Fiorentina man has only seen 24 minutes of action in Qatar, with Dragan Stojkovic preferring Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Vlahovic’s time with the Serbia national team in general has been a success, though, as he has managed to score nine goals in 18 outings.

For Juventus, who he joined in a deal worth around £66m, according to Sky Sports, Vlahovic has also been productive. In 36 appearances, he has registered 16 times, with seven of those strikes coming in the current campaign. And at just 22 years of age, you would expect him to only get better.

All in all, then, it is not hard to see why Newcastle would be interested in Vlahovic. He would be a terrific addition to their squad but an unlikely one as things stand.
