Newcastle United could turn Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin‘s head, believes transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Tyneside club have been busy this window, and Jones is expecting them to add to the business they have already done by making a statement signing in attack.

What is the latest news involving Calvert-Lewin?

Jones recently revealed on GIVEMESPORT that Calvert-Lewin is now Newcastle’s primary target for the striker position.

Last month, The Telegraph reported that Everton had scared off their Premier League rivals after telling them the England international would cost £60m.

However, it now looks like they are considering testing the water with a bid as Eddie Howe tries to add a new No.9 to his squad.

Last season, Calvert-Lewin scored five goals in all competitions for the Toffees, taking his career tally to 66.

What has Jones said about Calvert-Lewin and Newcastle?

Jones thinks Calvert-Lewin will be questioning what is going on at Everton right now and has suggested a move to St James’ Park would appeal to him.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “If you are Calvert-Lewin right now and you’re wondering what Everton are doing, I think it starts to turn your head, to be honest, and I think that Newcastle could make a statement signing in attack soon.”

Can Everton keep hold of Calvert-Lewin?

Manager Frank Lampard will certainly be hoping so, especially with Richarlison leaving for Tottenham.

Speaking about Calvert-Lewin at the end of last season, the Everton boss said (via Liverpool Echo): “He is a fantastic striker, the pedigree of striker that there aren’t many around.

“It’s been unfortunate for me, I think, that I haven’t had him fit. [There have been] little moments of fitness, but we know that strikers – particularly out of any position – probably need runs of games and fitness and confidence.

“We’ve never been able to get that for Dominic to be fair to him. But yeah, he’s a huge player, they are not very common. He is contracted to us, three years left on his contract, and I want to take this club forward and players like Dominic help that.”

Everton are not in the best shape financially, but selling Richarlison for £60m has helped them out massively. As a result, they are now in a much stronger position when it comes to Calvert-Lewin’s future, so it would not be a shock if he does end up staying at Goodison Park this summer.
