Instant fan / writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
Was so nervous when they were awarded the penalty!
Up to third in the league and playing with confidence, scoring loads of goals and six wins in a row.
Long may this continue.
Murphy man of the match and in the form of his career. Happy days!’
Nat Seaton:
‘What a performance!
It’s a joy to watch this football. Some of the moves tonight were of the highest quality.
Players at the top of their game, playing as a team and with confidence, is guiding us (hopefully!) back to the Champions League.
Happy happy times being a Newcastle supporter.
Off to Villa Park on Saturday to hopefully see this amazing run continue.’
David Punton:
‘Midweek magic as Palace are taken to bits with some destructive football.
United are rampant at the moment.
We’re brimming with confidence and this never felt in doubt once Murphy struck with a piledriver.
Even their penalty may not have altered the dial – but it didn’t matter anyway as Eze came up with one of the worst spot-kicks I’ve ever seen.
Murphy’s doing unreal numbers at the moment and the midfield once again is finely tuned. Tonali worth every single penny.
Barnes has found a new lease of life and pressing them hard yielded another collector’s item for Isak.
Up to third we go – and we’re in great spirits for a tough trip to Villa on Saturday.
The game in hand was huge and at last it’s been cashed in.’
Billy Miller:
‘Another gargantuan performance and result.
We are playing our best football of the season right now.
We’ve won 6 on the bounce in all competitions and have 12 goals in our last 3 games.
This is precisely the sort of form we need as we enter a run of challenging fixtures.
We’ve put ourselves in pole position for the Champions League.
Barnes and Murphy will be gutted there isn’t an England game for another two months.
On current form they’d both be deserving of a call up.’
Matt Busby said…:
‘We must be the best team in England right now. Simply unplayable.
Good game management from Jason. Get well soon Eddie.
Nick Pope again demonstrating why he’s our best keeper.
Sandro Tonali MOTM.
I thought it wasn’t going to happen for Isak and then, bam, what a finish. And what about Murphy emulating Tonali vs Brentford?
We’ve more than doubled our GD in the space of a week. Beat Villa and Chelsea and we’re nailed on for the Champions League. On this form, I can see it happening.
Oh, and we’re up to third in the table.’
‘Magnificent.
Five goals in a 5 star performance.
Newcastle are now up to third and are sitting pretty for a Champions League spot.
Recent results have bought us a margin for error too…but the way we’re playing we won’t need it!’
Tony Mallabar:
‘5-0 and a five star performance.
Genuinely, I’ve been going since 1978 and is there a better time to be a toon fan??
Wonder goals at St James’ Park this month from Jacob and Sandro, as well as the rest of the team playing at the top of their game.
I sit in the east stand and thought Pope had got the ball, the ref thinking differently. It was only when the incident was replayed on the big screen that the Leazes went Radio Rental with the decision, so I will have to wait until I get home for the highlights.
Off to villa on Saturday and Champions League awaits.’
