Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes’ character has ‘impressed everyone’ at St James’ Park, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Eddie Howe was appointed as the Magpies’ head coach last November and made Guimaraes one of his first signings.

What’s the latest news involving Guimaraes?

Newcastle forked out £40million to acquire Guimaraes from French giants Lyon during the closing stages of the January transfer window.

The deal resulted in the 24-year-old becoming the second most expensive signing in the Magpies’ entire history.

Newcastle were only able to tempt Guimaraes to Tyneside after becoming the richest club in world football thanks to the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund leading a £305million takeover last October.

That outlay has paid off as the six-cap Brazil international has already become a firm fans’ favourite at St James’ Park.

Guimaraes is a key member of Newcastle’s midfield and has also shown he can be a threat in the final third of the pitch by finding the back of the net on four occasions.

What has Keith Downie said about Guimaraes?

Downie understands that Guimaraes is not just a popular member of the squad among supporters as he has also made an impression at the Darsley Park training ground.

The Sky Sports reporter feels the Brazilian is well liked by those working behind the scenes.

Downie told GIVEMESPORT: “I think the thing that’s impressed everyone at the club most of all about him is just his character around the place.

“He’s just fitted in seamlessly to the rest of the players and you see that when you go up there because I’ve interviewed him a few times and I’ve seen him around the training ground. He just fits in brilliantly.

“I’ve spoken to a few of the players as well, who say that it’s like he’s been there forever, so he’s really fitted in.”

Has Guimaraes made a telling impact on the pitch?

Guimaraes has popped up with winning goals against Southampton and Leicester City, which has proved crucial in Newcastle moving up the Premier League standings.

Having spent lengthy spells of the campaign fearing relegation, the Magpies are now in with a chance of finishing in the top 10.

officially maintained their top flight status heading into next season.
